This event was held on Monday 27th April 2026 at Islington Archives, Finsbury Library London and was broadcast live and recorded on Cubitt Community Radio.

Reflections on creative resistance and collective storytelling from Islington's past and present community print and radio projects.

We were joined by Cubitt Community Distribution Centre (including Cubitt Community Press and Cubitt Community Radio) and Islington Bus Company for a conversation reflecting on current and past independent press and radio projects in Islington.

Cubitt Community Distribution Centre is a new project that brings together print and radio as shared resources for communities in Islington. Cubitt is exploring how press and broadcast can support local organising, creative resistance, and collective storytelling. We believe in owning the tools of creation and using them to make things happen in and for our communities.

In a borough shaped by a history of community action, the inspiration for this programme has been the historic radio and print projects that fought for Islington to remain liveable, welcoming and shaped by the people who live here.

Islington Bus Company was a community resource and information centre that operated in the borough between 1972 and 1988. They supported hundreds of local voluntary organisations, offering resources, equipment, printing, sound and video recording facilities, as well as collaborative services for under-fives, play and youth work, community arts and campaigning. Their archives can be accessed at Islington Archives.

This event is taking place alongside the Cubitt Community Distribution Centre exhibition, which can be viewed at Islington Archives, Finsbury Library until 30 April.
