The New Normative: Writing diverse relationships, with Keith Jarrett

Explore ways to open up diverse narratives around gender, sexuality and relationships in children and young people's creative writing.

Poet and writer Keith Jarrett will lead activities that challenge heteronormative stereotypes in literature, and give children and young people permission to explore all possible relationships in their writing.

You'll take part in creative writing activities, discuss ways to question and subvert dominant narratives about relationships, and share practice with peers. 

Throughout the workshop, Keith will draw on and share examples of diverse representations of gender and sexuality from children’s literature, young adult fiction and his own and others’ poetry.

Keith Jarrett is a writer, poet, performer and educator. He is a UK Poetry Slam Champion and FLUPP International Poetry Slam Winner. He is the author of two books of poetry, Selah (2017) and I Speak Home (2015) and the play Safest Spot in Town (2017). He holds a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of London, exploring Caribbean Pentecostal culture in London.
