Cubitt introduces recently appointed Director of Programmes Amal Khalaf and Curatorial Fellows 20/21 Languid Hands a curatorial collaboration between Rabz Lansiquot and Imani Robinson. Languid Hands will begin a new public programme this April under the title ‘No Real Closure’. 
 

These appointments mark the beginning of a new direction for Cubitt, extending the programme beyond the gallery space.   Building upon the rich history of Cubitt as an artist co-operative, the programme will feature new partnerships, collaborations and projects developed in community settings across London.   

Amal Khalaf is a curator and artist and joins Cubitt with ten years working at the Serpentine Galleries as Projects Curator working on the Edgware Road Project, Implicated Theatre and  Radio Ballads projects amongst others. Here and in other contexts she has commissioned and developed residencies, exhibitions, workshops and collaborative research projects that address the role of art operating within pedagogy and social urgencies.  Working with artists, activists, architects, broadcasters, students, social services, teachers and labour organisers, the many long term projects she has initiated, focus on how we work together and the possibilities of collectivity. Alongside her role at Cubitt, she will continue her curatorial work at the Serpentine Galleries, as well as working as part of artist collective GCC,  as well her advisory roles with not/no.w.here and Arts Catalyst. In 2016 she co-directed the 10th edition of the Global Art Forum, Art Dubai. Amal's work has been presented at Goldsmiths College, London; Venice Biennale 2019; MoMA PS1, NY; New Museum, NY; Whitney Museum of American Art, NY; Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, Doha; Musee D'Art Moderne, Paris; The Sharjah Art Foundation, Sharjah; Serralves, Porto;  amongst others in educational and cultural contexts.

Languid Hands is a London-based artistic and curatorial collaboration between Rabz Lansiquot, a filmmaker, programmer and DJ and Imani Robinson, interdisciplinary writer and live art practitioner. Their work is informed by ongoing explorations in Black and queer studies, Black creative practice, Black liberatory praxis and queer methodologies. They began collaborating in 2015, through the collective sorryyoufeeluncomfortable (SYFU). With SYFU they produced public programming in a number of institutional and independent contexts in the U.K. and Europe including curated screenings, collective readings, performances, workshops and discussions, and curated exhibitions including the BBZBLKBK Alternative Graduate Show 2018 at Copeland Gallery, London and (BUT) WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT WHITE SUPREMACY?, a group exhibition at Many Studios as part of Glasgow International Festival 2018. In 2019, as Languid Hands, they made the film Towards a Black Testimony: Prayer, Protest, Peace commissioned by Jerwood Arts for the group exhibition Jerwood Collaborate! which was also exhibited at Stroom, Den Haag, alongside a curated public programme of performances by artists from their extended community. Also in 2019, Languid Hands curated a group show away, completely: denigrate, at Fitzrovia's narrative projects.
