This October, Saturday Socials participants are hosting a mini-festival in three acts. Participants are co-devising sessions with Ania Bas, Lucy Steggals and Joshua Sofaer. The groups usually meet in three different locations and are coming together for discussion, exchange and making.

The mini-festival Part 1 took place on 10th October with a visit to Tate Britain. This session was hosted by participants who regularly work with Ania Bas through a partnership project with the Home Library Service. Over a cup of tea, the group were invited to create miniature sculptures exploring activities awaiting them in the future.

The group then spent time looking in detail at Sir Stanley Spencer’s painting The Resurrection, Cookham, discussing the depicted human figures before one of the group members offered his reading of the painting which was underpinned by over fifty years of his own research.

The session culminated with the group working together to construct a temporary sculpture, a monument celebrating multiple futures.
