On Friday 9th December 2016, we held our annual Celebration Event as part of our Institute of Anything young artist programme.

The event was a great success, we were joined by ten young people, their families and friends. Studio 5 was decorated with some of the brilliant fabric pieces produced on the programme.

To kick off the event we were joined by Cubitt studio artist, Melissa Gordon who led a fantastic screen printing workshop for everyone to print and take home a canvas bag featuring the Institute of Anything logo, designed last year by our young people .

Sam Curtis, our programme co-ordinator spoke about the programme’s upcoming Saturday workshops for the new year and introduced Cubitt artist Belle Moore-Benham who presented a short film of the spoken word workshop she delivered in October.

Amanda Wayne, Cubitt’s Programme Manager for Schools & Young People spoke about the summer school and the high praise received from the Arts Award moderator on the portfolios produced by our participants.

“A fantastic programme through which clearly the young people have learned and gained a great deal about visual art. The range of activities and scope of options devised by the advisor were exemplary. The use of tumblr as the portfolio mechanism was highly effective in capturing the wealth of learning and the high levels of engagement. The reflections by the young people in their posts demonstrated clearly the development in their skills knowledge and abilities.”

To celebrate their fantastic achievements, we were joined by Cubitt studio artist Anne Ryan, who presented the Arts Award Bronze certificates and spoke passionately about her personal experiences of youth art clubs and the importance of programmes like ours, for young people who would otherwise not have such inspiring opportunities to experience the arts.

A big thank you once again to our funders, The Monument Trust, Hilden Charitable Trust, LBI Summerversity and Arts Council England and partners Widening Participation at Central Saint Martins for their ongoing support on this programme.
