The V-Conspiracy – Refunctioning Authorship or, After Appropriation and Institutional Critique

Let us start from the premise that ‘appropriation’ necessitates an address to ownership and to the proper/property form, and that ‘institutional critique’ must encompass self-reflexivity. In these terms, what is at stake in returning to such artistic practices of the 1970s and 1980s through the lens of feminist imperatives? The willful (miss)behavior of the ‘V-Girls’ will lend the discussion focus—a group of women scholars, artists and performers who, in 1980s New York, orchestrated incisive parodies of the academic authorial form of the panel discussion.
