Benjamin Owen’s super film from Cubitt’s Arts Picnic on Islington Green

Watch Ben’s short film documenting Cubitt’s Arts Picnic on Islington Green on 27 August 2016.

As part of our Saturday Socials programme funded by Islington Giving Benjamin Owen curated an afternoon of art, music and dance: each of these improvised in response to the others, and also to passers-by.

Our regular Saturday morning group worked with Ben to lead the long- distance drawing, accompanied by live improvised musicians from Cafe OTO and performance interventions by Simona Scott’s Counterpoint Dance Company.

It was an amazing, brilliant day!

Cubitt Arts Picnic 19th August

After a fabulous Summer Ball in June we are now preparing ourselves for the next event on the Cubitt calendar- The Arts Picnic! The event is a melange of creativity and fun on the beautiful Islington Green. The event is entirely free and there will be dancing, live music, art coordinated by Lucy Steggals and Ania Bas and most importantly refreshing tea and delectable cakes! So please join us on August the 19th!

Amazing Arts Picnic

Here are photographs of this year’s Cubitt Arts Picnic on Islington Green: Artists Ania Bas and Lucy Steggals who are both working on our Saturday Socials programme devised gazing and drawing activities whilst musicians Neil Luck and Benedict Taylor interpreted and goaded the pace and shape of marks made. Counterpoint Dance responded to the musicians, drawers and members of the public through poise and playful performance. And the Positive Collective created beautiful placards and a rowdy parade of positivity.

Over 160 over people took part as well as many members of the public!

The Business Design Centre very kindly donated funding towards this event, and we are also grateful to Bellanger and the Hummingbird Bakery for donating beautiful cakes. The event is part of a year-long programme Saturday Socials, funded by Islington Giving.

Cubitt Arts Picnic 2018

Saturday 18 August 2-5pm

A selection of images from our marvellous Arts Picnic on Islington Green this year. Lucy Steggals and Ania Bas have been working with participants in the Saturday Socials programme in monthly workshops at Cubitt or through the Home Library Service at sheltered accommodation settings in the borough.

With these groups Lucy and Ania have been developing ideas around future spaces in Islington. They co-designed some making and drawing activities to share and invite ideas from the general public passing through Islington Green.

Booking for this event has now closed.
