Looking at stylistic aspects of infrastructure in India, Britain and the former Soviet Union among other places, Ashok Sukumaran initiates a discussion engaging with Owen Hatherley’s evocation of a vital and equitable Modernist aesthetics, the future of the ‘pirate modern’, and other clues to what could now be imagined or built.

Ashok Sukumaran currently showing his Postscript on the Order of Networks, at Cubitt as part of the exhibition The City is a Burning, Blazing Bonfire, has an interest in the archaeologies of media, and the role of aesthetics beyond art. He is based in Mumbai and co-initiated CAMP and Pad.ma.

Owen Hatherley is a writer and architecture critic. Recent books include Militant Modernism; A Guide to the New Ruins of Great Britain; and Uncommon, about the pop group Pulp.
